Why Peppermaster is importing its goat-peppers from Haïti

Tina and Greg Brooks, founders of Peppermaster, Rigaud, QC
Fair Trade means going direct to the farmers who are best able to grow our ingredients throughout the year. We offer the growers a fair price for their produce and in return, the Farmers give us fresh-picked produce without our having to wonder what has been sprayed on it. The vast majority of our suppliers are either organic certified or use biological growing methods. This way, we know, we are getting the best quality possible using natural growing methods.

We decided to target Haiti as a supplier because our signature chilli pepper, the Goat Pepper, is widely grown there.

We are working with Roland Hippolyte, and several other Haitian NGO support organizations, including nOula, in order to help Haitians rebuild their economy by purchasing the peppers.

We feel that the best way to help a nation get ahead is to buy their domestic output. In our case, that means chilli peppers. The quality of fruit that we have seen coming out of Haiti, the mangoes, the chocolate and the peppers tells us that this is Haiti’s best way to strengthen their economy.
